This professional level course identifies the top priority invasive plant species across the East Kootenay region. These species have known sites in the region with varying degrees of establishment. Proper identification of these species is critical to preventing new infestations.

About the event

Learn to identify new and spreading invasive plant species, and understand what to do to control them before the species population grows to the point where it cannot be locally eradicated. Implementing  measures can increase the likelihood that new invasions will be managed successfully prevented new invasive species from becoming established and negatively impacting native species. Next to prevention, it is the most time and cost-effective way to curtail and manage the potential negative impacts of new invasive. This training will provide participants with tools to:

• Identify and detect priority invasive plant species and their vectors of spread;

• Identify, record, and report priority species;

• Understand how to implement preventative measures.

Who is this course for?

Professionals and volunteers who are engaged, or interested in, invasive species work. This training will enhance current efforts and reduce the frequency of inaccurate reports and excessive reporting of common species. 


Participants should be able to identify locally invasive plants or have taken the practical Invasive Plant Identification course.
