About the event
American bullfrogs are not just a familiar “croak in the night” - in the wrong place, they become powerful invaders with serious ecological consequences. Join Maja, Education & Outreach Assistant at EKISC, for an engaging information session exploring American Bullfrogs and the growing concern they present in the East Kootenays.
Did you know American bullfrogs are already present in parts of the Kootenays? Once introduced, they spread quickly and can outcompete, prey on, and displace native amphibians, birds, fish, and even small mammals. Their presence can disrupt entire aquatic ecosystems, reducing biodiversity and putting pressure on species that are already sensitive to habitat change.
This session will break down what makes American bullfrogs such a successful invasive species and why early detection and reporting are so important for protecting local ecosystems.
Participants will learn:
What invasive species are, and how they spread
Why American bullfrogs are considered a high-risk invasive…
